Check out my new blog! (This one won't be updated anymore.)

I just finished the last part of the redesigned aa-pahoehoe.com, and now everything is uploaded! I think it looks great, especially compared to the dredge that I had created using Geocities. So needless to say, I am in a very good mood right now even though I am about to pass out over my computer (not much sleep during finals week, especially when it coincides with and Eagles Monday night football game and the Survivor finale). But that's ok! Philadelphia took over the city of Miami Monday night as there were literally thousands of Eagles fans at the game and the Eagles won 31-24. The night before, Sandra was named winner of Survivor: Pearl Islands! I was so happy she won. I had wanted her to win once our beloved Rupert was voted off. Only about a month and a half now until Survivor: All Stars premiers! I can't wait; this will probably turn out to be my favorite season of my favorite show ever. Now if only Colleen was gonna be on it...

So today I finally finished the new front page for my website. It should be up before too long, as soon as I finish making the other few pages that go along with it. I actually have time to work on it now since I finished my 15 page paper today and don't have any more work to do until my finals start on Monday. Speaking of finals, I have like the worst possible schedule. Sunday night is the 3-hour Survivor: Pearl Islands finale (Jon, Burton, or Lil better not win...) and so I have to watch that, but then I have a 3-hour exam Monday morning followed by another one in the afternoon. Not fun. Then Monday night, the Eagles play at Miami on Monday Night Football, which again, I have to watch. Then of course Tuesday morning I have another 3-hour final to take. Oh well. At least after that I'll be done for the semester.
Randomly changing topics now, I believe the Mormons have way too many commercials on TV. Depending on what channels you watch, you may or may not have seen any of them, but I watch enough TV that I must have seen at least five different ones in the past month. The one I saw this afternoon I thought was especially funny. It began, "This year, invite the spirit of Christmas into your home by watching this inspiring DVD, Joy to the World. It's a free gift to you and your family. Just call this number or ask your Mormon neighbor (LOL!) for your free copy." Like I have a Mormon neighbor. Maybe if I lived in Utah, but fortunately I don't (although they do have a lot better skiing there than in Pennsylvania). So sorry Mormons, but I will gladly watch the South Park Mormon episode which I TiVoed and then recorded onto a DVD! It's definitely one of the most hilarious things I've seen in my life. Well, I think that's enough mormon-bashing for now.

So right now I'm watching a Saturday Night Live rerun, but exactly one week ago, I was actually at studio 8H in Rockefeller Center watching SNL live!!! It was one of the coolest things I've ever done for sure. I was lucky enough to win tickets in the lottery back in September. I went with my sister, and we got to New York early to get dinner and walk around Manhattan some. After checking out Times Square and seeing Letterman's studio, we went to get in line at Rockefeller Center around 9:45. We finally went up the elevator around 10:30 and were seated in the studio around 11. We got front row seats, but they were in a section diagonal to the front of the studio, so we didn't have the best view of everything, but it was definitely cool to be in the front row. The show was pretty good; Alec Baldwin did a really good job hosting for his 11th time, but I hated the musical guest Missy Elliott. After the show, we exited the studio and I saw Kenan just standing around talking to people, so Katie and I got our picture taken with him. As we were getting ready to take the picture, he said to me, "Could you let my girlfriend by?" So then I move aside and feel someone brush against me and say excuse me. So I turned around, and who was it, but Tina Fey!!! And then Amy Poehler came out to and was talking with some people that looked like her family or friends. After hanging around up there a little bit, we went down the elevator, and there were a few people down in the lobby, and Katie saw the back of someone and thought she recognized him. She was right - it was none other than Mike Myers, who had a cameo during the monologue to promote The Cat in the Hat. We hung around there for a bit and then exited the building right after he did to a huge cheer from all the fans waiting outside hoping to see some of the stars. It was really cool - felt like they were actually cheering for me lol. We decided to hang around outside for awhile when we saw everyone out there, and we saw a few of the celebs exit and leave right away, but Kenan came out and just hung around with everyone and was talking with all the fans. He's the coolest guy and it was great to meet him. So then we left and drove home which was so strange because the city was like empty...but it was also nice because it only took and hour and 45 minutes to drive home. Soon to come ... pictures!!!

Well, today was a rather interesting day. I went down to visit Susan at UMD and we hung out and stuff. This was my second time visiting her down there, and the first time I happened to have some troubles getting back to Baltimore at night (see the very first entry at the bottom of this page). Well, tonight we planned out the bus, subway, and train I was going to have to take to get back. The bus never showed up, so after about a half hour of waiting we called a taxi. Finally after about 40 minutes, the taxi finally showed up, but by this time, if I had gone to the subway station I would not have made it to Union Station in D.C. in time to catch my train. So I ended up having to take the taxi to New Carrollton, which cost $22, and I got onto the train from there finally (the train also, in following with the pattern of the night, was about 10 minutes late). I'm still sitting on the train right now listening to Lauren Hart while I write this. Moral of the story: I NEED A CAR!!!

I HATE THE YANKEES! AND I HATE THE MARLINS!!! Things were all set up perfectly to have a Red Sox - Cubs World Series, but noooooo. The freakin Yankees and Marlins had to ruin it. Both the Sox and Cubs were just 5 outs away with a 3 run lead and blew it. And Pedro, Wood, and Prior all started games with their teams having 3 wins already! I don't believe it. I'm not even watching the World Series now. As soon as the Yankees won, I didn't wanna see them celebrate so I switched it over to ABC to watch Kimmel, and within a minute he realized the Yankees won, and I think he said best what like 90% of the country was feeling at that time: (laughs) "Yankees-Marlins. Oh God, kill us all."

Oops, it's been a long time since I updated this. Guess I kinda forgot about it. Well, getting back to August, my week in Florida was really fun. There was a lot of jet skiing (which I'm not a big fan of, so I participated as the photographer), Sega Tennis playing (I think I kicked mega butt in this one), and sleeping downstairs due to the loss of A/C in the upstairs. Among other things, we also toured Miami a little bit, played some real tennis, and spent hours on end driving around in the car (lol). I've also finally finished the web pages for Awesome August 2003 which you should check out.
So now I'm back at school (bleh), but at least I have my own apartment this year. It's really pretty nice; you should come visit!

Saturday, August 23, 2003, 3:27 PM

Well it's been about 10 days now already since I last updated this thing. I'm on the plane now from Philly to Ft. Lauderdale for the third leg of my long vacation. Gotta finish writing about our California trip and Rhode Island also.
So Wednesday morning we did get to go parasailing, and it was pretty cool, not nearly as scary as I had thought it might be. It felt awesome just like hanging up in the air over the huge lake looking down at everything. That afternoon we went whitewater rafting on the Truckee River just north of the lake. I didn't think I would like it too much, but it also ended up being really fun. At first the river was pretty calm and there were only class 1 rapids. But by the end there were 2 huge drops and the rapids got up to class 3+ as they called it.
Thursday was a really long day. We left Tahoe by like quarter of 10 and drove to Yosemite National Park. It was probably about a 4 hour drive through the Sierra Nevadas on many windy roads to get to Yosemite Valley where most of the stuff to do is. We drove by a waterfall, Bridalveil Falls, and saw a path that looked like it would lead up to it, so we decided to get out and check it out. Well it ended up leading to a bunch of huge rocks and boulders that you had to climb through to get up to where the waterfall landed in a pool of water. My dad and I decided to try to make the climb, and man was it worth it. I got some great pics of the falls from up there. After another couple hours looking at stuff in the valley, we headed out of the park towards San Francisco, stopping 2 hours short to stay at a hotel.
Friday morning we woke up, drove to the airport, and that was it. We didn't end up getting home until after 11 PM because we had to wait about an hour and a half for the stupid luggage to come to the baggage claim; it was so rediculous.
Saturday I decided to stay home rather than go up to Rhode Island right away because I had way too much stuff to do (i.e. too much stuff to watch on my TiVo to catch up on all my shows that I missed while we were gone.
Sunday afternoon after church Court, Jonathan, and I took the train up to Rhode Island. Our time there was pretty much the usual - hanging out with family and friends, watching TV, and playing lots of multiplayer games on Playstation. Oh, and add 2 more dominos wins for me to make that 3 in a row! We were there the whole week, and now it's Saturday afternoon, and as I wrote, I'm on my way now to Florida!!!

Tuesday, August 12, 2003, 5:07 PM (Pacific time)

Monday morning we took a gondola ride at one of the skiing mountains up to the top where there was a great view. It was really fun, except we had to go with this big group and a tour guide who talked for like 45 minutes before we even got to go up the mountain, then he continued to talk more and more while we were up there. It's summer, less than a month left til school, I don't want to learn right now!!! Anyway, at night we drove about an hour north to Reno where there are lots of casinos. We had a buffet dinner at the El Dorado casino and afterwards my mom wanted to play the slot machines for a little. So us kids went into the game room where they have video games and stuff. I went out to take a few pictures of my mom and she wanted me to try the machine she was on. So I put one quarter in and pulled the handle and lost, all in about 5 seconds. I was like, ok, how stupid and boring is this? Well, a little bit later, we were all by the slots kind of just waiting to leave, when my dad got Kaitlin (who just happens to still be 17 years old) to start playing. I was standing back watching her, when after about her tenth pull, she goes, yay I got two matching things! Then she realized that she had won. We looked at the counter showing how much she won, and it kept rising higher and higher until it finally stopped at 300, meaning she won 300 quarters, or $75! It was the funniest thing.
Tuesday morning we were supposed to go parasailing, but they called and said they were having mechanical problems with their boat, so we rescheduled it for 2 in the afternoon. But when we got there, they said the wind was starting to blow too hard, so they canceled it. Now we are supposed to try it again tomorrow morning.

Sunday, August 10, 2003, 10:02 PM (Pacific time)

Friday was the long drive from San Fran out to Lake Tahoe. We stopped after about an hour in Davis to visit an old friend of my dad's. From there it was another 2-2.5 hours to Tahoe.
Saturday ended up being pretty much just a day to relax. I spent most of the day just playing Playstation and watching TV (the Phils beat the Giants 8-6 in 10 innings and Burrell hit 2 home runs!!! ... I am still ticked that I couldn't go to one of the games this weekend at Pac Bell in San Fran, but oh well, at least they were on TV here).
Today, Sunday, my 20 1/2 birthday, we took a 2 hour boat cruise around part of the lake. It was kinda boring at times, but I got a bunch of really nice pictures at least. After dinner, I kicked serious butt at a game of dominoes!

Thursday, August 7, 2003, 10:37 PM (Pacific time)

Well this is the first time I've had a chance to sit down and write what's happened so far on our trip. It was rainy in Philly on Tuesday, so we were sitting in our plane for about an hour and a half before it finally took off. So then we got into San Francisco at like 8 PM Pacific time and we were all dead, so it was just a quick dinner and then bed.
We spent all of Wednesday doing stuff in the city. We took a bus tour in the morning that took us all around the city and on top of a big hill where you could see the whole city and bay and get great pictures. We ended up at Fisherman's Wharf where we got lunch at pier 39. Around 3 we took the ferry over to Alcatraz and went all around the island and inside to see the jail cells. The day ended with watching the sea lions at pier 39, dinner at the Hard Rock (where they played almost no music at all), my mom drinking one Long Island iced tea and acting totally crazy, and a trolley ride back to the hotel.
Thursday turned out to be a lot of driving. We started off driving by Pacific Bell Park where the Giants play so I could take a few pics. We proceeded up to the Golden Gate Bridge (which is more or less red), crossed over, and took a few more pics. Then we drove up, literally, to Muir Woods to see the Redwood trees. After a short hike through the woods, we drove over to the coast and went out to a little lookout point with a great view. Then, due to some lack of communication and bad map reading, we ended up going the wrong way, north, up the California coast along a really high, twisty road. Who knows where we would have ended up if it wasn't for my trusty laptop and Microsoft Streets & Trips! I found a way through the mountains which we took after a short stop down at a beach. We eventually made our way north and east towards Napa. On the way, we just happened to drive by the Sears Point Raceway where there is a NASCAR race every year. So I got all excited and we stopped in and they let us drive around pretty much anywhere to take pictures. We went up high on a hill where we could see the whole track at once (it is a road course track, as opposed to an oval track, so it is spread out over a pretty big distance). After our short pitstop (no pun intended, ok, it was intended) we made our way through Napa and up to Calistoga to see the Old Faithful Geyser of California. Technically, a geyser can be called and old faithful geyser if it erupts in regular intervals, and there are only two others in the world like this. The most well-known one is in Yellowstone n Wyoming; the other is in New Zealand. After a short stop at the outlets in Napa to fulfill the shopping cravings of my sisters, we went back to the hotel and then to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. But of course it was way to crowded so we just got take-out and brought it back to the hotel. Time for bed; tomorrow we head to Lake Tahoe.

Saturday, August 2, 2003, 10:12 PM

Wow, I didn't realize how long it had been since my last post. It could very well be another month or so until my next post again because of what I am calling Awesome August 2003. I'm gonna be traveling almost all month: San Francisco and Lake Tahoe 5th-15th, Rhode Island 16th-23rd, and down to Miami 23rd-29th. I am soooooo excited!

Wednesday, June 18, 2003, 11:51 PM

Ok so I'm watching Letterman right now and they're outside on one of those segway scooters which move all on their own - all you do is lean a little and twist a handle to turn. They showed a couple pictures of George W. on one, and apparently he forgot to turn it on and so when he leaned forward he just fell. Yes, the same man who also once choked on a pretzel. Anyway, so I was thinking, wow! I want one of those so bad! It's great for lazy people like me who hate to walk a lot, and it would be perfect at school when I have to walk like 5-10 minutes to get to class. But then I realized, would I actually use it at school? I mean I'd be riding around on this thing looking like a freaking moron. And I get embarrassed rather easily, so I know there's no way I'd ever use it. So it would only really be used for fun at home, and so it's probably not worth however much money it costs. Oh well, but I still think it's a really cool invention.

Friday, June 13, 2003, 12:33 AM

My sister Katie graduated from high school tonight. Seems like just a few months ago that I was in the same position, but it's actually been 2 years now. Pretty crazy. Of course it was pretty hot and raining so everyone had to stay inside afterwards and it was all crammed, but it was still cool to see a bunch of old classmates and teachers and stuff.
2 items of very good TV news I just heard about the past couple days: Big Brother 4 starting July 8th and ABC announced there will be another Celebrity Mole, this time in the Yucatan Peninsula. YAY!

Tuesday, June 10, 2003, 11:40 PM

Stanley Cup Finals game 7: Devils 3, Ducks 0. Oh well. Just another reason to hate the Devils. At least Jiggy won the Conn Smythe. Translation: Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere won the award for most valuable player of the playoffs. Hey Devils fans: key word there is playoffs! Not finals. Sure Jiggy didn't always play his best against the Devils, especially in game 5 when he gave up 6 goals. But he was the single reason the Ducks even made it to the Stanley Cup finals. You could have replaced Martin Brodeur with another good goaltender and the Devils with their defensive system still could have won the Cup. Therefore Giguere is more valuable to his team than Brodeur and is deserving of the award.
Now for another rip at Devils fans: they have to be the worst fans in all sports. Their team has always been good, at least through the last 10 years, and yet they never seem to sell out their home games. They had the 8th lowest average attendance this year during the regular season (14,858 in an arena that holds 19,040). This equates to only 78%, 5th lowest in the league. Totally unacceptable for a good team, especially a Stanley Cup winning team. So how about the playoffs? They must sell out all the playoff games, right? WRONG! Not a single sold-out home game until the conference finals against Ottawa. How pathetic. Averaged 16,718 in 3 home games vs. Boston then 17,304 in 3 home games vs. Tampa Bay. Even Tampa averaged over 20,000 fans in their 2 home games against the Devils. It just pains me to watch the Stanley Cup finals and see all these Devils "fans". They all just jump on the bandwagon. I don't know who I hate more, the Devils or their fans.

Monday, June 2, 2003, 2:28 AM

Well, it's been awhile since my last post. I hate coming online on my laptop at home b/c I gotta use a really slow dial-up connection, oh well. So, Hopkins lost in the lacrosse championship game to Virginia by 2 goals last weekend. EEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! I went down to the game in Baltimore with most of my family so that was cool, but it's too bad they lost. Devils are ahead of the Ducks right now in the Stanley Cup finals 2 games to 1, so the Ducks need to win again tonight. Larry Brown left the Sixers, so now they need to find a new coach - HOPING we get Maurice Cheeks from Portland, but I dunno if that's gonna happen. Phils swept the Expos in a doubleheader today and the Mets killed the Braves...woo-hoo! Oh yeah, and the Flyers traded Cechmanek to the Kings for a second-round pick in next year's draft...sounds like they're gonna look for another goalie to start instead of Esche though. Ok I think that covered most the relevant sports news as of late.
But now on to the French Open. Stupid clay of Roland Garros...the Americans never do too well there. Just today, Venus, Capriati, and Davenport were all knocked out in the fourth round, leaving only Serena and Chanda Rubin left in the women's draw. And on the men's side, only Agassi is left. Davenport had to retire in her second set today due to injury, but I'm just hoping she's well enough to play doubles still b/c she's playing with MY favorite player, Lisa Raymond! Lisa is in the 3rd round in both women's and mixed doubles, and she even actually won a singles match this year too! I just can't wait until Wimbledon in a month. I want to go back there SO bad!
So my second favorite reality show (behind Survivor of course) started its fourth season this week - The Amazing Race. The Italian Alps looked amazing; hope I get to Italy some time in my life. Not sure who I'm gonna pick to win it yet, but I know one thing: The NFL wives are probably going to be out in a week or two. I like how they have a young dating Christian couple this time, but of course they can't just call them boyfriend and girlfriend, they have to label them as virgins, like that's something completely outrageous or something. I mean, it shows up on the screen over and over and over again. It's so wrong. Not as wrong as the gay married couple, but still. At least it seems like it's gonna be another great race. Only about 8 more months until I'll be old enough to apply to get on the show! My mom and I have been talking about applying together for awhile now so I hope they will still make another season in like a year or so.
GO DUCKS!!!

Monday, May 19, 2003, 10:55 PM

The past four days can be summed up in one word: OUCH! I had my wisdom teeth taken out Friday morning and have been hurting ever since. The bleeding still hasn't quite totally stopped but it's mostly just a little leak now. I've barely been able to eat anything and therefore have not had much energy at all. I won't go into all the gory details of it all, but I think the surgery took about 3 or 4 hours which is longer than usual. I'm just glad this is the first time I've ever had any surgery or stitches at all, but it definitely gives me a greater awareness of what people who have to undergo surgery or who have an illness have to go through. This is the first time I've really started to feel almost normal and it's been over 3 days now. So what have I done since Friday afternoon? Three things: sleep, TV, and Playstation (YAY I finally won the Superbowl on Madden 2003 in the All-Pro level and am now moving on to the hardest skill level).
So the Sixers are out now, grrr.... but so are the Lakers! But now since those two teams are out I really couldn't care less about the rest of the NBA playoffs. The Senators beat the Devils tonight and now trail the series 3-2. I hope it goes to 7 games so the winner will be tired and lose in the finals to the Ducks!!! Jiggy rocks - only 1 goal against in 4 games vs. the Wild. The Philadelphia Charge (women's soccer) won their first game of the season finally on Saturday with 2 goals from league MVP Marinette Pichon!

Tuesday, May 13, 2003, 12:38 AM

In my best Joanna impression: "Hallelujah! Oh glory! Hallelujah!" I'M ALL DONE SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR!!! As of this moment, I have been awake for 33 hours straight, so I'm rather exhausted. Finally going home in about 12 hours from now, still haven't started to pack, but oh well I'm feeling way too lazy right now.
The Mighty Ducks beat the Wild again! Two shutouts in a row for Jiggy. So now they're up 2-0 going to Anaheim for 2 games. QUACK QUACK QUACK! In other hockey news, Roman Cechmanek apparently is not coming back to play for the Flyers next year. He was voted the team MVP during the regular season this year, but he was way too inconsistent in the playoffs, especially against Ottawa. So now he thinks the fans all hate him (which I guess some now do) but also Bobby Clarke doesn't have much tolerance and is always quick to change things up and I get he got fed up with Roman's inconsistent play. Cechmanek is still under contract, though, so Clarke will have to try and trade him. Otherwise it's looking like Robert Esche could be the starting goaltender next year. He's shown he can play well, but I don't know if he's ready to start yet, so I'm hoping Clarke makes a trade for someone. Maybe package Cechmanek with a defenseman or a draft pick or two - they already have 6 starting defensemen, plus 2 others in the minors that have proven they can play in the NHL also (Seidenberg and Vandermeer), and 2 prospects expected to be good enough to make the team next year (Woywitka and Pitkanen).
Here's a great section of an article I found on espn.com in one of John Buccigross' columns:

Yo Bucci!
Should I study for my tests or watch the Vancouver game at 10:30?
-----
When it came to studying, sleeping or ESPN while attending Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, I always chose ESPN. I had to pay professors to graduate, but my late-night studying of televised sport was clearly my first example of adroitness. The second was adopting an otter that feeds me all my hockey knowledge like picking the Ducks over the Red Wings. Have I mentioned that yet? (I am now officially a one-hit wonder with my Anaheim over Detroit pick. I'm riding that like Nena rode "99 Luftballons" at this year's "Dusseldorf Chamber of Commerce Ozzfest Vll"

Now I love this for two reasons. One, I'm the same way about studying vs. watching hockey on TV. Two, I love "99 Luftballons." Had to listen to it last semester in German class and I loved it. Anyways, that's all for now, time to finish my Madden game then pack then sleep.

Monday, May 12, 2003, 2:11 AM

If anyone can explain to me how the heck Jenna won Survivor: Amazon, please tell me. Yeah, so she won both final immunities, but I still thought Matt would beat her until Probst revealed the vote and Jenna won 6-1! I couldn't believe it. Then once the three hours of Survivor were over I remember that the Sixers had played tonight too (oops!). Fortunately they won again to tie the series at 2-2. Hopkins won their first round lacrosse game against Army 14-2 and will take on Towson next weekend. Then after we beat them it's on to the semifinals Memorial Day weekend! But enough of this, I gotta study. 2 final exams on Monday means 6 fun hours of tests. Then I get to go home on Tuesday!!!

Saturday, May 10, 2003, 12:13 AM

Just finished 2 days of finals and writing java...what fun. Almost no sleep and not a lot of food either, so I'm incredibly tired and hungry. So I'm gonna go get food and watch Kimmel and then sleep forever! Just 2 more finals on Monday and then I'm all done and halfway through college...sounds both exciting and scary at the same time. Oh, and I've decided on who I think will win Survivor now - my pick is Matthew, although I never get it right so he probably won't win. I still want Rob to win though, he deserves it the most in my opinion.

Thursday, May 8, 2003, 7:49 PM

Well, I did it...first all-nighter of my college career...I surprisingly wasn't too tired until after my exam ended at noon - fell asleep by accident when I got back. Can't wait til Monday night when all this craziness will be over. Should I work now? nah...Sixers are on and Survivor starts in 10 mins. Guess that means possibly another all-nighter? At least my exam tomorrow isn't until 2.

Thursday, May 8, 2003, 2:07 AM

Calc final in less that 7 hours now...ahhhh!!! I could be up all night, we'll see...After that I get to write some more java programs and then study for my stats final, what fun.
Tonight is the second to last episode of Survivor: The Amazon! I'm thinking Heidi is going to run out of luck this time...and now that Christy is gone I definitely want Rob to win - he's one of the best players at this game in my opinion ever up there with Rich and Brian. But because of that fact, sadly I do not think he will win (plus he has had to backstab just a couple people...). My guess as to the winner right now would have to be Matthew. Rob wants to carry him to the final 2, I don't think anyone dislikes him, and he's always been a hard worker. Well, that's enough for now, back to studying, I'm out.

Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 3:42 AM

I have a theory. Well, I have several theories on things. But the one I will talk about now is how the city of Philadelphia was cursed the moment I was born, and this curse will end the moment I die. This relates specifically to Philly's four major sports teams. I was born in February of 1983, and the last time any Philly team won a championship came in May of that year. So I was 3 months old then and that doesn't count; I wasn't even alive for the whole season. After years of constant disappointments, I have come to the conclusion that as long as I am alive no Philly team will win a championship. So why am I bringing this up now? Well, the Flyers were just eliminated from the playoffs tonight by Ottawa, and I am so pissed right now. But I won't go into further detail about that because it would take forever to write all my thought about that. It's not that Philly teams have totally stunk thoughout the years, in fact, they all (except the Phillies) have usually been pretty good. The Flyers have now made the playoffs 9 years in a row; the Sixers 5; the Eagles 3. The Flyers have even made it to the Stanley Cup finals 3 times ('85, '87, '97), and the Sixers ('01) and Phillies ('93) making it to their league's finals just once each. But all have lost. Minor league and lower level professional teams have won championships, however, but it's still not the same (nothing against the Wings, Kixx, and Phantoms). In fact, I was at the game in which the Phantoms (the Flyers' AHL minor league affiliate) won the Calder Cup in 1998 and that was amazing, but still not the same as it would have been had it been the Flyers. So until one of these teams wins a championship (if ever), my theory will remain the same. I really am finding it harder and harder to believe that I will EVER see a major championship in this city. *SIGH*
As a side note, Eric Desjardins was hurt about 2 weeks ago in a game vs. Toronto, and according to the Flyers website, he "underwent successful surgery to repair his metatarsal fracture. Dr. Mark Myerson, a foot and ankle specialist in Baltimore, Maryland performed the surgery." This intrigued me, because when you think of doctors and Baltimore, you think of Johns Hopkins. So I searched on our school's website for this Dr. Myerson, and it turns out he is an Assistant Professor at the JHU School of Medicine and his school address is at Union Memorial Hospital, which is literally right across the street from my dorm! That would have been so cool if Desjardins was actually right here for his surgery, but I can't say for sure that this is where it happened or not, but it seems likely to me!
In other hockey news, the Ducks eliminated the Stars today in game 6. They beat the Red Wings in the first round, and now the Stars!!! Crazy...So the western conference finals will be the Ducks vs. Canucks/Wild. How wild is that? hehe...but of course in the east it's the top 2 seeds, Senators and Devils, no upsets. Just the Flyers luck. Oh well...there's always next year, and the next year, etc. GO DUCKS!

So I just decided to start this online journal sort of thing because, well, I really don't know why. Guess I just thought it'd be cool to have a place on my site to post any thoughts I have or any interesting stories etc. Well, I am up this late because today is the beginning of the 3 day reading period before finals begin here at Hopkins, so that means NO CLASSES!!! So I am just doing what I often do when I don't have to get up for anything in the morning, i.e. staying up really late.
Since this is the first post, I will add a couple things from this past weekend. Saturday was interesting to say the least. The Flyers-Senators game was on ABC, but here in B-more they showed the Hopkins lacrosse game instead, which really ticked me off. Since I knew this ahead of time, I made plans on Friday to go down and visit Susan in College Park (University of Maryland) to hang out and watch the game there. Well, my train was over 2 hours late, so I had to wait forever for one to come and by the time I got to the New Carrollton station and met her it was like already 3:00 and the game was about to start. So we took a taxi back to her apartment and that was like $20, but whatever. Oh yeah, and the taxi driver didn't really know where he was going so we almost got lost. Well, the Flyers ended up getting killed (I won't even attempt to touch this subject). We got dinner then took a bus to the Metro station where I was going to take the subway back to New Carrollton. So the subway ride was like an hour (I had to go all the way into the middle of DC basically), but hey, it saved a bit of money. I got to the Amtrak station in New Carrollton around 8:50, but the machines I use to get my ticket out of turned out to be in a separate room which they locked at 8:30, so I had no way of getting my ticket that I had already bought online. Cutting to the chase, I ended up having to pay for another ticket, which after an argument they only charged me $10 instead of the $24 they wanted when the ticket REALLY was only $12. *SIGH* Definitely a lot more interesting than my normal Saturday of TV and Playstation.
So now on to Sunday. The Magic blew a 3-1 series lead so now the Sixers have to play the Pistons in the conference semis...eeerrrr...oh well. I think the Sixers have a good chance to make it back to the NBA finals again, but will lose to whoever makes it out of the west...just PLEASE don't be those dang Lakers again! But enough basketball, what's really on my mind is hockey! Flyers-Sens game 6 on Monday with the Flyers needing to win 2 games in a row now. If we get knocked out, I hope the Ducks win it all. They've got some of that Disney magic this year just as the Angels did throughout the baseball playoffs last year. I hope the Wild can come back against the Canucks too. The men's Division I lacrosse tournament bracket was announced today, with Hopkins getting the #1 seed for the second year in a row! We're playing Army here on Saturday in the first round, then the winner of Towson-Penn State the following weekend. Go Blue Jays! I really think they will win it all this year. Well, that's all for now...don't think my posts will usually be quite this long, but hey, this was the first.
